Purpose:

To provide a self-study web-based education program for National Healthcare Corporation (NHC) Speech-Language Pathologists including learning modules in Medicare reimbursement for SNF skilled services, “best practices” for significant areas of vulnerability for patients in long-term care, and why therapeutic programming for each area is essential.

Objectives: At the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the five characteristics that make up the Speech-Language Component of PDPM;
  • Discuss conditions and services that are included in the calculation of the non-therapy ancillary component of PDPM and where these are documented on the MDS;
  • List and describe clinical criteria for each of six nursing categories for PDPM/Medicare reimbursement for Part A services;
  • List and discuss the components of Medicare reimbursement for Part A services in a skilled nursing facility;
  • Describe principles of “best practices” for addressing significant areas of vulnerability for patients in SNF and long-term care (skin integrity, weight loss, falls, function, cognition)-including why programming for each is essential in this setting;
  • List essential components of successful discharge to the community (ability to return from SNF to community setting with minimized risk for rehospitalization, falls, and functional decline.)

Continuing Education Credit:

This course is offered for 0.7 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate Level) and co-sponsored by SA Swallowing Services, PLLC.

Completion Requirements:

Participants are expected to complete the entire program with participation recorded using Relias. At the end of the series, a test will be administered.  Notification by Ms. Avery that all requirements have been met, CEUs will be awarded. Partial CEU credit will not be provided.
