To provide a two-day training course for Speech-Language Pathologists in the use of transnasal endoscopy to assess pharyngeal dysphagia using a standard FEES assessment protocol and scoring and analysis procedures.

Objectives: At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Apply safe & effective manual skills using nasoendoscopy to assess the oropharynx, hypopharynx, & larynx before, during, & after each swallowing event;
  • Describe & use specific FEES protocols & procedures to capture & assess dynamic & complex swallowing events;
  • Describe & evaluate the anatomy & physiology of swallow peristalsis & airway protection functions during normal & abnormal swallowing events, as viewed endoscopically;
  • Identify, understand, & use standard infection control procedures with any FEES procedure;
  • Identify any risks or contraindications for administering the FEES procedure; and
  • Score, analyze, & interpret FEES results to recommend & guide appropriate interventions.

Intended Audience Only:

Speech-Language Pathologists with earned Master’s degree or above working in the healthcare community.  Registration by other non-SLP professions is not permitted.

Course Location:

Mount Nittany Medical Center, 1800 East Park Avenue, State College, PA.  After registering for this course, a Letter of Confirmation and course agenda will be sent to you.

Course Registration and Tuition:

  • HOST-paid Fee: $500.00 for each participant sponsored by HOST and HOST will be invoiced by SASS for the total amount. Each designated HOST participant will register at www.sasspllc.com.
  • Non-HOST Participant-paid Fee: $500.00 to be paid at registration portal, sasspllc.com, either by online PayPal (no account needed) or by mailed check made out to SA Swallowing Services, PLLC.

Continuing Education Credit: 1.6 ASHA CEUs

Program Completion Requirements:

Participants are expected to be present for the entire program. Individuals who are not present for the full program will not be recommended for ASHA CEUs. No partial credit will be provided.
