To provide a two-day training course for Speech-Language Pathologists in the use of transnasal endoscopy to assess pharyngeal dysphagia using a standard FEES assessment protocol, and scoring and analysis procedures.

Objectives: At the completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Apply safe & effective manual skills using nasoendoscopy to assess the oropharynx, hypopharynx, & larynx before, during, & after each swallow event;
  • Describe & use specific FEES protocols & procedures to capture & assess dynamic & complex swallowing events;
  • Describe & evaluate the anatomy & physiology of swallow peristalsis & airway protection functions during normal & abnormal swallowing events, as viewed endoscopically;
  • Identify, understand, & use standard infection control procedures with any FEES procedure;
  • Identify any risks or contraindications for administering the FEES procedure; and
  • Score, analyze, & interpret FEES results to recommend & guide appropriate interventions.

Intended Audience Only:

Graduate student Speech-Language Pathologists and faculty from Moravian College who have the intent of working in the medical community.  Registration by other professions will not be permitted.

Course Location:

Moravian College, Department of Rehabilitative Sciences, Bethlehem, PA. After registering for this course, a Letter of Confirmation and course agenda will be sent to you.

Course Registration and Tuition:

$425.00.   Includes hands-on endoscope training, and a 140-page training manual (lecture power points, scoring forms, report examples, other information) to take home.  A maximum of 20 participants will be registered for this course. Student and group discounts are not permitted. Participants may register by check, money order, or online using PayPal (you do not have to have a PayPal account).

Course Switching and Cancellation Policies: 

Cancellations: 30 days or more before course date: 100% of course tuition, less PayPal processing fees, will be refunded

10 to 29 days before course date: 50% of tuition, less PayPal processing fees, will be refunded

Less than 10 days before course date: No refund of course tuition.

Cancellations must be in writing, preferably email. Allow 30 days after course completion for refunds.
