Saturday and Sunday,  January 25 & 26, 2020

Purpose:

To provide a two-day, 16-hour, Basic FEES training course for Speech-Language Pathologists in the use of nasoendoscopy to assess oropharyngeal dysphagia using a standard FEES® assessment protocol.

Objectives: At the completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • -Use safe & effective manual skills using nasopharyngoscopy to assess the oropharynx, hypopharynx, & larynx before, during, & after each swallowing event;
  • -Describe & use specific FEES® protocols & procedures to assess dynamic swallowing events;
  • -Describe anatomy & physiology of normal & abnormal swallow events, as viewed endoscopically;
  • -Identify & use standard infection control procedures, & identify risks & contraindications for nasoendoscopy; and
  • -Score, analyze & interpret FEES® results to recommend appropriate diets and interventions.
  • -Have up to 15 successful endoscope passes on normal subjects following FEES procedures.

Speech-Language Pathologists with earned Master’s degree or above who are working in the healthcare industry.   Other professions are not permitted without prior approval.

Course Content, Registration, and Tuition:

The Basic FEES Training Course includes presentations on anatomy/physiology of swallowing, FEES-specific equipment, proper endoscopy handling, medical issues with nasoendoscopy, infection control procedures, FEES protocols and procedures, Abnormal swallow findings, scoring scheme, determining biomechanics of abnormal swallowing, use of endoscopy in treatment, hands-on endoscope training,  analysis learning and practice using computer-exercises, and a 140-page training manual (lecture power points, scoring forms, report examples, other information) to take home.

  • Registration is through the online registration portal on this website.
  • After registering, a Letter of Confirmation and course agenda will be sent to each registrant by email within a few days after registering.

 

Tuition:

  • $450.00 per participant
  • Payment may be made through PayPal (no account needed) or by check using the registration process. A course seat will be reserved for up to 30 days prior to the course date when registering to pay by check.  If payment by check is not received prior to 30 days of the course date, the seat will be offered to person on the course waiting list.

 

Continuing Education Credit:

This course is offered for 1.6 ASHA CEU’s (Intermediate Level; Professional Area). ASHA CE Logo

 

 

 

 

Program Completion Requirements:

Participants are expected to be present for the entire program. Individuals who are not present for the full program will not receive ASHA CEUs. No partial credit will be provided.

  • Scoring FEES: Using Rating Scales (90m)
  • Analyzing Swallow Peristalsis & Airway Protection Behaviors (45m)
  • FEES: Evaluating Behavioral Intervention Effectiveness & EBP (45m)
  • Hands-on Nasoendoscopy/FEES Labs & Analysis Labs (225m)

Cancellation Policy:

If course registration is cancels 30 days or more before the course date, full tuition, less credit card processing fees, will be refunded within 30 days following the course completion date.  If registration is cancel less than 30 days prior to course, 50% of the tuition will be refunded.  If the course were to be unexpectedly cancelled, each participant will be notified as soon as possible and 100% of tuition will be refunded within 30 days.
